Trip Photos (part four)

Oct 22

I’ll post more photos when I get back into town, but here are a few images from yesterday.

Today, we went to Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City, the market, and a Chinese acrobatics show.

Trip Photos Part Three

Yesterday, I thought it would be interesting to get a haircut, and once I made that decision, I proceeded to go all out and get it colored as well. I’ve always wanted to do bright red, so this was very exciting for me.

Today, we also visited the Great Wall and also the 2008 Olympic Park. What an amazing day! I’ll post a few pics tomorrow.

What Satan Thinks About the Church

Oct 14

This is a new installment in a series of videos that LifeChurch.tv has done where their Senior Pastor interviews Satan to get his perspective on a subject.

I love it. These guys are so clever.

Mr. Wizard’s Microscope

Oct 01

microscope for all occasions

I don’t know if Mr. Wizard was into  microscopes, but I’m sure he would love this little hand-held device that I bought for my daughter’s birthday last weekend.

It’s called the Bionic Eye, and it’s made by Eye Clops.  It plugs into your TV, and it has zoom levels of 100x, 200x, and 400x.  The best part: it only costs about $30.

Below you can watch a video of me testing out the microscope.

Even if my daughter doesn’t end up playing with it much, I’m going to get hours of fun from this thing.

If you happen to know of anything that’s especially cool to look at under a microscope, please tell me about it.

Redeeming the Broken Parts of Me

Sep 29

broken

Yesterday’s post was difficult to write. It’s challenging to take a hard look at your own struggles and then put them into writing. The reason I did it is because making progress in that area was at the top of my personal growth plan for the year, and I believe that as I expose my struggle to the light, God will continue to change my heart and mold me into the likeness of His Son.

It is such an amazing and freeing thing to know that through Jesus, not only do I find forgiveness for my sins, but I also get to watch as God redeems even the broken places of my life. Through Christ, I have nothing to hide. I don’t have to pretend that I’m perfect. Even my biggest struggles are no match for the cross and God’s power to make things new.

I could really use three or four of these to cycle through the kids’ toys on a daily basis.  Pretty cool video.

Church Branding: Faith Promise Church

Aug 20

church-letterhead

The Faith Promise Communications Team (Heather Burson & I) have been plotting and scheming about revamping the church letterhead, envelopes, and stuff for several months now, but it’s only been in the past few days that we’ve settled on a set of designs. I personally think they’re awesome and a major upgrade, but I’m a little bit biased.

We should be finalizing the order by the end of this week, and there’s a chance that we might get some of it back in the next couple of weeks.

I love this kind of stuff!

iPhone on the iCampus

Aug 16

Today we launched our first Internet Campus with iPhone streaming, and it went great. Josh was kind enough to get me some screen captures on his iPod Touch, and you can see them below.

Another Update to the iCampus

Aug 14

online_church

The Faith Promise Internet Campus continues to make progress, and thanks to the help of Brad Roberts and the folks at Light Cast Media, we’ll be testing out streaming on the iPhone this Sunday at 10 & 11:45 am. This is a brand new technology, and I’m glad we get to jump on board so early in the process.

If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you can test things out by going to http://faithpromise.org/icampus. If you go there on an iPhone or iPod Touch, you should just see a iPhone specific countdown page. From there, you’ll be able to select whether you want the stream with or without sign language. (Yes, you’ll be able to stream the sign language video on your iPhone.) Even without an iPhone, you can see what it looks like here.

If everything goes well, in addition to the iPhone stream, we will also see substantial improvements with both our audio and video quality. Matt James has helped me to set up a better encoding process, and Phil Bledsoe helped me to work out some kinks in the audio – providing the iCampus with a better range of sound.

What a blessing to work with such a great team! Pray with me that our iCampus will continue to make an impact in the lives of people online.

Towards a Deaf iCampus

Aug 06

Thanks to the Hurculean efforts of Matt James, and the support of our great tech ministry at Faith Promise, we’re still on course to add an additional feed to the Internet Campus this weekend for the Deaf community.

This is a shot of our recording room. The monitors in the foreground are for recording both of the video streams. The board is for the sound recording, and the monitors in the top right are what the camera director uses to select camera shots. (In case you can’t tell, things are a bit of a mess right now.)

PS – In addition to the new video feed, I think we’ll also see improvements to the audio and video quality online this week, and video on the iPhone should be happening soon as well.
