Talking About Sex at Church

Aug 02

Of all the church services I’ve ever attended in my lifetime, last night was one of the most memorable. We’re in the middle of a series where people can submit questions online and via text, and this weekend is completely dedicated to talking about sex – what’s OK, what’s not OK, and how to find freedom from sexual addictions.

The questions and answers were very candid (PG-13, in fact), and I found it to be very refreshing to hear such clear teaching from the Bible regarding sexuality.

If you have a few minutes, I’d highly recommend watching the sermon video below.

Super-Secret Project

Jul 17

big-time secret stuff

Right now we’re working on a big-time secret project that I couldn’t be more excited about.  I can’t say anything yet, but we will be making an announcement soon.

For those of you who are so kind to visit this blog regularly, I want to give you a few  little hints (not so that you’ll start guessing, but so that you’ll be praying with me):

  1. It involves the Internet Campus.
  2. As far as I know, we’re the first church to do this.
  3. There’s potential to reach a lot of people for Christ.

Remembering an Amazing Hike

Jun 22

Long's Peak, Colorado

Two years ago, a couple of my bro-in-laws and I took a hike to the top of Long’s Peak in Colorado.  It was the sort of hike where, while you’re hiking, you keep expecting to see dead bodies down below.  Without a doubt, it’s the most challenging hike I’ve ever been on, and I took a few photos on the trail.

I posted this up a couple of years ago, but today a friend of mine reminded me about the trip.  Definitely worth five minutes to look through the pics (there, you can click the photos to advance them).

Home Depot & My Daughter

Jun 19

You may not realize this, but Home Depot puts on an awesome free kid’s clinic each month nationwide.  This month was our first time to go, and the experience was great.  They provide a kit, let you use their tools, and give the kids a Home-Depot-style apron.  When you complete the project, the kids get a pin and a snack.

Whoever thought this up is brilliant!  Not only does it foster incredible good will from me to Home Depot, but it also builds that into my kids as well.

I’ve heard that Lowe’s does it too, but I haven’t been yet.

PS – Thanks, Marti, for the tip.

Google Wave

Jun 01

Just last week, Google unveiled a new piece of software that is still in development.  It’s called Google Wave, and it looks like it will revolutionize the way we communicate on the web (including emails, photo sharing, document collaboration, and blogging).  It was developed by a team of people including the guys who built Google Maps, and it looks amazing even though it’s not finished yet.

The best news of all: it can run directly inside of modern web browsers (HTML 5), and it’s being released as Open Source (free & expandable by others).

The video is over an hour long, but if you want to get a quick snapshot, forward to 11 minutes into the video.

Video of My Kids

I put this video together for Keri as a gift on Mother’s Day, but I just now got permission from her to post it up here.  I think it turned out pretty great.

Just in case you haven’t seen this yet, this is a collection of bicycle stunts that one guy has done.  Really amazing!

At the Risk of Seeming Obsessed with Legos…

Apr 07

I came across this amazing drawing the other day. It’s a poster designed to promote a kid’s brain development program. Not so sure about the program, but I love the creativity of the illustration (I’ve never considered what the skeletal system of a Lego man must be like before).

Speaking of Fear & Failure…

Apr 01

For several weeks now, we’ve been planning towards launching our Internet Campus this Easter weekend with a rebroadcast of Sacred Storm.  There’s still a lot to do to get things ready, but tonight Josh and I decided to push the envelope a little further and do two services on Easter Sunday, 4/12/09.  We’ll broadcast at  both 3pm and 8pm EST.

Honestly, this is terrifying, and the potential for failure just got cranked up a notch, but so did the potential of making an eternal impact in people’s lives.  Now, not only will we have six amazing productions in Knoxville, we’ll also have two productions that are aired globally.  That’s amazing, and it’s worth the risk!

As you pray for these productions and invite people to attend, please also pray for my great friend Brad Roberts and I as we continue to build the Internet Campus and get it ready to roll.
